College Baseball: Matt Sims, UTSA
Matt Sims pitched one inning, striking out two and allowing no earned runs Thursday in UTSA's 4-1 win over Baylor University. Sims graduated from Cy Woods High School.
A 2010 graduate of Cy-Woods High School Sims was a two-year letterwinner at pitcher for coach Thomas Loria. As a senior 2009-2010 he went 6-3 on the mound with a 2.73 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 56 innings of work. Sims threw a two-hit shutout that season against rival Cy-Creek High School. He also batted .389 at the plate to earn first-team all-district recognition. Sims was selected to the Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association all-star game and received Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association academic all-state honors. The son of Rick and Julie Sims he is an accounting major.
