Pro Baseball: Nicholas Lee Stavinoha, Memphis Redbirds
published Jun. 29, 2011Nicholas Lee Stavinoha went 0 for 4 in the Memphis Redbirds's 6-2 loss at the Omaha Storm Chasers on Tuesday. Stavinoha graduated from Jersey Village High School.
Stavinoha is a 2000 graduate of Jersey Village High School. He made multiple stops in his college baseball career playing at the University of Houston, San Jacinto College and Louisiana State University. He spent two seasons (2004 and 2005) in Baton Rouge batting .348 with 26 home runs and 107 RBIs in 121 career games for the Bayou Bengals. In 2005 as a senior, Stavinoha was named MVP of the Baton Rouge regional of the NCAA tournament after a season in which he hit .370 with 18 home runs. He was drafted in the seventh round (230th overall) of the 2005 MLB draft by St. Louis. Stavinoha advanced to triple-A Memphis of the Pacific Coast League in 2007, his second full pro season, and one year later he made his Major League debut for the Cardinals on June 22, 2008. He appeared in 29 games in 2008 for St. Louis batting .193 with four RBIs, and he spent 112 games with Memphis where he was a .337 hitter with 16 homers in 74 RBIs to earn PCL all-star honors. In 2009, Stavinoha hit .282 with 11 home runs and 56 RBIs in 72 games for Memphis while also appearing in 39 games for St. Louis, where he hit .230 and hit two homers. He spent the bulk of 2010 at St. Louis hitting .256 with two homers and nine RBIs in 79 games while also appearing in 23 contests for Memphis. Stavinoha was born May 3, 1982 in Houston. Read more...
Pro Baseball: Robert Edward Grossman, Bradenton Marauders
published Jun. 29, 2011Robert Edward Grossman went 1 for 2 with one RBI, one run and one walk in the Bradenton Marauders's 8-1 loss to the St. Lucie Mets on Tuesday. Grossman graduated from Cy-Fair High School.
Grossman is a 2008 graduate of Cy-Fair High School and a sixth-round selection (174th overall) of the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2008 Major League Baseball draft. He played in five games during 2008 for the Pirates' rookie team in the Gulf Coast League before playing his first full pro season in 2009 with West Virginia of the South Atlantic League (single-A). Grossman appeared in 116 games for West Virginia batting .266 with five home runs and 42 RBIs to go along with 35 stolen bases. Pro Baseball: Clinton Charles Everts, New Hampshire Fisher Cats
published Jun. 29, 2011Clinton Charles Everts pitched two innings, striking out one and allowing one earned run Tuesday in the New Hampshire Fisher Cats's 3-1 loss at the Trenton Thunder. Everts graduated from Cy-Falls High School.
Everts is a 2002 graduate of Cy-Falls where he was a first-team high school all-American as a pitcher during his senior season, 2002. The Montreal Expos made him the fifth overall pick of the 2002 Major League Baseball, and Everts signed his first professional contract on Aug. 24, 2002. He spent the next six seasons (2003 to 2009) in the minor league system of the Expos/Washington Nationals advancing as high as Triple-A Syracuse in 2009. Everts had a career 32-39 record over 191 outings for eight different teams in the Montreal/Washington system before signing as a minor league free agent with the New York Mets prior to 2010. Lakind is a 2010 graduate of Cy-Woods High School. He was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 23rd round (687th overall) of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft. Lakind signed his first professional contract on Aug. 16, 2010 and began his pro career with the Pirates' rookie team of the Gulf Coast League.
