College Baseball: Chris Fritts, University of Tennessee

Chris Fritts went 0 for 3 and scored a run in University of Tennessee's 8-4 loss to Austin Peay on Thursday. Fritts graduated from Cy-Ridge High School in 2010.

Fritts is a 2009 graduate of Cy-Ridge High School where he holds the career records for batting average, home runs and RBIs. He was a four-year letter winner and three-time All-District selection. Fritts was rated at the 63th overall prospect in Texas by PGCrossChecker.com during his senior season (2008-2009) when he batted .547 with four home runs, 25 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. That year he was selected twice as player of the week by the Houston Chronicle while also being named a Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association All-Star in addition to being selected All-Area Greater Houston by ESPN Rise Magazine. Matt Sims pitched one inning, striking out two and allowing no earned runs Thursday in UTSA's 4-1 win over Baylor University. Sims graduated from Cy Woods High School.

A 2010 graduate of Cy-Woods High School Sims was a two-year letterwinner at pitcher for coach Thomas Loria. As a senior 2009-2010 he went 6-3 on the mound with a 2.73 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 56 innings of work. Sims threw a two-hit shutout that season against rival Cy-Creek High School. He also batted .389 at the plate to earn first-team all-district recognition. Sims was selected to the Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association all-star game and received Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association academic all-state honors. Tori Sheppard went 1 for 2 with two RBIs in Southeastern Louisiana University's 10-2 victory at Northwestern State University on Thursday. Sheppard is a 2010 graduate of Cy Creek High School.

Sheppard played at Cy-Creek in 2006-2010, where she was a four-time All-District nominee and a two-time All-State performer. She was named All-State in her senior season and also earned All-District Academic honors. She is the daughter of Darrell and Tami Sheppard. Read more...
