It may have taken close to 20 years to launch, but officials with the city of Jersey Village and Harris County were no less pleased to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Jones Road extension project last week.

There are two primary schools of thought emerging among Jersey Village’s residents and elected officials about whether or not the city should spend taxpayer dollars on infrastructure that could provide the base for a multi-faceted planned development area along the future Jones Road extension corridor south of U.S. 290.

West Harris County MUD No. 9 was recently awarded a $500,000 grant from the Texas Department of Transportation to build a new walking trail to Bang Elementary School. The grant is part of the Safe Routes to School program.

Sections of the Terry Hershey Trail near the Sam Houston Tollway and Memorial Drive area will be closed as needed during the next year or so while an estimated $4.2 million erosion control project is under way along Buffalo Bayou.
