What is Happening to the Parents?

This high school softball season has been weird one. Maybe times are changing but seems that the parents are getting meaner. Yelling out "that's what you get!" on a collision at the plate? Really? LOW CLASS, I expect that from the kids, kids are stupid and do stupid things. Parents on the other hand are supposed to be role models for the younger generation, I guess the end is near, we are all doomed. STOP IT!!! Be a role model, work the concession stand and be proud of it. Volunteer mentor, Want to help, be a positive influence, MAKE A DIFFERENCE!! BE A PARENT!!!! Instill integrity and honor into your childs life. It has to start somewhere, it starts with YOU

RE: What is Happening to the Parents?

Let me begin by saying I don't currently have a daughter playing softball in CFISD (she graduated), but do know many girls at each school. I just couldn't let this pass without commenting because I have to agree with Big Daddy - parents really do need to do a better job at being role models for our children. Based on your post, are you saying two wrongs make a right? If the Creeks parents did act poorly when your player was injured, then SHAME on them - but if the Lakes parents acted the same way then SHAME on them - they had a chance to show the Creek parents how adults should behave and they blew it! I understand how emotions run, but that is no excuse for an adult, let alone a PARENT to wish ill will towards any child. Most of these girls are good kids, they play because they like the sport and as with any sport there's the risk of getting hurt. Interestingly enough, the regular catcher for Creek (the one who caught the first 9 games of the season) has an injury and hasn't caught in the last 3 games which believe includes the game you referenced, thus it was a completely different kid. Come on parents, let's show the kids how to act. Teach them to be competitive, but also teach them to be respectful of their advisaries - they can make us stronger or weaker - we have the choice in how we respond. GO CFISD!!! - Great group of kids....

RE: What is Happening to the Parents?

Lets think about what you said; the player that broke your catchers hand was our catcher. WRONG the girl who broke your catchers hand was in left field and the shortstop from the first game was our catcher.(obviously you dont pay much attention at these little sporting events)Your catcher like all catchers gets a stinger or a foul ball off the hand and has to take a time out. ( 9 times out of 10 the catcher continues the game) The girls on the field see this happen all year round they showed no disrespect, even your coaches went on like nothing happened. There where no ill intentions or malice, just softball. Your statement was and I qoute "The catcher sees the runner coming home and STEPS BACK from the base line to purposely block the runner's line to the plate." well explain to me how you step back from the base line (which is inline with the plate) and still block the plate? Rules state that you cannot block the runners path to the intended base without the ball. STUMPED? I know, a player looking for revenge? Now how classy is that? Did her parents tell the catcher to do this? Was she told that the girl broke her hand on purpose? Give me a break, no one intended any harm to your child or your team other than on the scoreboard. I was at both games and didnt hear anything durogatory until the second instance(and from your parents) Parents need to teach the VALUES! I shouldnt be teaching them here on a discussion board!!!!!!!
