See buildings implode at Lone Star College-University Park
published Sep. 21, 2011 - Story by Scott Gordon
Lone Star College held a controlled demolition of two buildings Sunday at its University Park Campus, 20515 State Highway 249.
The implosion took about 15 seconds, and LSC said it plans to recycle about 95 percent of the buildings' materials. The eight-story buildings together represent more than 60 million pounds of steel and concrete, which left 765 tons of scrap metal and 30,000 tons of concrete and asphalt.
According to a press release, LSC plans to turn the building sites back into green space.
