Snoopy, Giant Peach compete for top food sculpture
From a press release:
After mall hours on Sunday, March 14, creative crews from organizations throughout northwest Houston were busy at Willowbrook Mall, building sculptures for Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM) Art for the Hungry competition. Each group was challenged to build a sculpture based on the theme, Larger then Life,' using 1,000 or more non-perishable food items. Snoopy, The Giant Peach and a Garden of Love are just a few of the creative entries in the annual contest, hosted for the last 12 years at Willowbrook Mall.
The sculptures are on display at the shopping center through Sunday, March 28 when all the food items will be donated to NAM 's Food Pantry. Visitors to Willowbrook Mall are encouraged to stop by, enjoy the art and vote for their favorite by making a monetary donation.
The evening of Sunday, March 28, winners will be selected from three categories, including School Groups, Community Organizations/Businesses and Churches. The sculpture with the most monetary donations will be honored as the People's Choice and NAM will award the Judges' Golden Can Award.
Art for the Hungry kicks off NAM 's Survival Over the Summer food drive, which collects cash and non-perishable food items to stock NAM 's Food Pantry to feed school children during the summer months.
