CFISD journalism students win Gold Circle awards

Students from Cypress Falls and Cypress Creek high schools won 2010 Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) Gold Circle individual awards, announced at the 86th annual national CSPA convention at Columbia University, March 17-19.
Gold Circle Awards recognize superior work by student journalists working with either print or online media published in schools or colleges throughout the United States and in overseas schools following an American plan of education.
Cypress Falls graduate Chelsea Ruffino won first place in both the Student Life Spread, One Spread Black & White category for "Starting Trendy Fashions" and in the Student Life Spread Mutli-Page Presentation Black & White category for "Ten Most Fascinating" in the Golden Eagle yearbook. Ruffino also won third place in Feature Presentation - Black & White for "Change of Scenes" in the Golden Eagle.
Cypress Falls sophomore Christian Rumscheidt swept first- through third-place in the Design for a News Digital Edition category for six different updates of The Wingspan Online.
The Cypress Creek staff of the Cougar Pride yearbook won second place in the Cover Design category, while Cypress Creek senior Katie Smith won third place in the Advertising - Single Page Ad Design, Color category for "Gabby Schmees" in the Cougar Pride yearbook.
