Cy-Fair ISD expansion not nearly finished

With 10 high schools up and running, the Cy-Fair Independent School District already is one of the largest school districts in the state of Texas.
In fact, in the Bayou City area, only Houston ISD has more high schools in its respective district than Cy-Fair ISD.
But Cy-Fair ISD probably is not going to stop at 10. Cy-Fair ISD athletic coordinator Sheri Stice said there could be as many as 14 high schools before the expansion project is finished.
If you just look at the potential for growth, they tell us we could have as many as 14 (high schools),'' Stice said. Then, if you just look at square miles, (it is easy to realize) we could have as many as 14.''
Cy-Fair High School was first opened in the spring of 1941. It was 31 years before Jersey Village became the second Cy-Fair ISD school in 1972. Cy Creek was the third to open in 1977 and Langham Creek was fourth in 1984.
But, over the last 26 years, six more high schools schools have been added to Cy-Fair ISD, including Cy Falls, Cy Springs, Cy Ridge, Cy Woods, Cy Lakes and Cy Ranch.
I don't know if we are ever going to settle down,'' Stice said. But can you imagine if all the kids at Cy Woods still went to Cy-Fair? You would have some great teams, but you also would have a lot of kids who could start at other schools who never got a chance to play.''
District track meet to gety under way April 13-15
The District 15-5A track meet will be held on April 13-15 at Cy Falls High School.
Cy-Fair and Cy Falls both have had outstanding track teams in the past, but this year could be wide open.
It is hard to say what is going to happen,'' Cy-Fair ISD athletic coordinator Sheri Stice said. One school will have sprinters and another will have distance runners. It should be a great meet. It always is.''
