Armando Sedeo is not one to mince words when it comes time to talking about his high school baseball team.
But even he had to back off from his initial reaction when asked about the 2010 season.
We are not very good right now,'' spouted the fiesty Sedeo, who is one of the biggest competitors in the Bayou City.
Then, he changed his mind.
"Wait a minute," he said. "I really don't mean that. Right now, the ball is just not bouncing our way. But we are going to regroup. We have retreated. Now, we are going to regroup."
Langham Creek finished non-district play at 7-4, then promptly lost three district games to Cy Woods (3-1), Jersey Village (11-5) and Cy Ranch (4-2).
It is just one of those deals where the ball is not bouncing our way right now,'' Sedeo repeated. But in this district, it just goes to show you that anybody is capable of beating anybody. There is not going to be one team that goes unbeaten. I can assure you of that.''
But Langham Creek was supposed to challenge Cy Woods and Cy-Fair for the District 15-5A title. Now, it looks like a two-team race.
Right now, I would have to agree with that,'' admitted Sedeo. As of right now, Cy Woods and Cy-Fair are the teams to beat. I thought we were (when district started). I still think we have one of the better teams. We are just not getting the breaks.''
Langham Creek tied Cy Ridge for fourth in the final District 15-5A standings in 2009, then lost a one-game playoff to miss the Region II-5A playoffs for the first time in three years.
This year, the Lobos were picked to finish third behind Cy Woods and Cy-Fair. But Sedeo said Jersey Village, Cy Falls, Cy Creek and Cy Ranch also have to be thrown into the mix.
Jersey Village has swung the bat pretty well,'' Sedeo said. Cy Falls has some kids playing well. Cy Creek is playing well and Cy Ranch is a team to watch out for. It is going to be a fight from this point on.''
Langham Creek returns a trio of pitchers from last year's club in Michael Gothard, Jeremy Leonhardt and Hayden Jones.
Jones also has been the team's leading hitter through the first 14 games of the season.
He has been hitting the cover off the ball,'' Sedeo said.
Jake Kocurek, Brandon Montalvo and Ryan Rand also have been swinging hot bats of late, while returners Mitchell and Garrett Juergens add a lot of experience to the outfield, Sedeo said.
We just have to work on our 12-step program toward winning baseball,'' Sedeo said. This is a big week for us. We have to start winning some district games and get back on the right track.''
