Columnist not sold on soap box derby hill
Houston Chronicle columnist Lisa Falkenberg attended the first soap box derby race day at the Hockley Derby Park and wrote a column about her thoughts on the experience and the park.
Falkenberg has been an outspoken critic of the park, but she admits that, even as a "cynical columnist," watching children enjoy the track showed off the benefits of the park.
However, she also talked to some local residents who felt, like her, that the $2.2 million spent on the park was an unnecessary expense during the current recession.
