Cy-Fair, Cy Woods to square off

By TODD HVEEM
CHRONICLE CORRESPONDENT
There are still three weeks left in the regular season, but the District 15-5A title might be all-but-decided on Tuesday night.
If the Houston area's No. 1 ranked Cy-Fair Bobcats travel to Cy Woods and knock off the Wildcats, they should be in good shape to claim yet another conference crown.
Cy-Fair beat Cy Woods 11-8 in the Brenham tournament and 8-7 in a District 15-5A game earlier in the year.
Both teams were 5-1 through the first six games of a grueling district schedule.
ABOUT THE GAME
Matchup: Cy-Fair vs. Cy Woods
When: 7 p.m. Tuesday
Where: Cy Woods High School
At stake: District supremacy. The two teams were picked to battle for the district title at the beginning of the season. Not much has changed.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Cy-Fair: Matt Cardamone (OF); Trey Wall (P); Garrett Machacek (P, 1B); Ryan Suescum.
Cy Woods: Jared Lakind (P); Cody Dickerson (P, IF); Matt Sims (SS, P).
TEAM HIGHLIGHTS
Cy-Fair: The Houston area's No. 1-ranked Bobcats look to be on a mission to get back to the state tournament. Cy-Fair won the state title in 2007 and has been threatening to get back to the final four for the past two years. This year might be the season Woody Champagne's club climbs the Region II mountain once again.
Cy Woods: The Wildcats have lost five games this season, and all five have come against ranked teams (Clear Creek, Kingwood, College Park and Cy-Fair twice). The Wildcats have three of the most talented players in the Houston area in Jared Lakind, Cody Dickerson and Matt Sims. The trio are among the club's leaders in hits, average, RBIs, home runs and walks.
