Cypress woman a Krystal star
Chronicle columnist Ken Hoffman loves fast food, but Cypress resident Angela Sims-Quinty might give him a run for his money when it comes to Krystal Burgers.
Sims-Quinty soon will be inducted into the Krystal Lovers Hall of Fame. And, she'll have her picture on Krystal burger boxes.
Here's what Ken had to say in Thursday's Chronicle:
Cypress resident Angela Sims-Quinty grew up in Memphis, doing all the things that Memphis kids do, especially eating Krystal's hamburgers.
I loved them. When we moved to Houston, that was the thing I missed most. Houston didn't have a Krystal's. It really made me sad. I'm a nostalgia person. I'm into that sort of thing," she said.
Then, a few years ago, she was driving along FM 1960 when she saw it.
Houston's first and still only Krystal's.
I started crying. Really, literally crying. You can ask my husband. He was my fianc then, and we were driving so I could try on my wedding dress. Finding that Krystal's was total serendipity. We stopped and ate a bunch of burgers. They were exactly as I remembered them. Now my husband is a convert, too. We make the 30-mile round trip a few times a month to eat Krystal's," Sims-Quinty said.
Sims-Quinty was so overjoyed with her serendipitous (great word) discovery that she wrote to Krystal's home office and thanked the company for coming to Houston.
Loyalty like that doesn't happen too often these days.
So, at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 8, Sims-Quinty will be inducted into the Krystal Lovers Hall of Fame. For one month after that, her face and story will be on every Krystal burger box. We're talking millions of burger boxes.
I'm incredibly excited. That night, I get to invite 40 of my friends and family to the Krystal's in Houston for a free burger party," she said. I'd like to thank my husband, Daniel, my daughter Shelby and son Killian for supporting my Krystal's addiction. I couldn't have done it without them."
Maybe her brother Rick says it best.
You know you're a redneck when your sister's picture is on a Krystal's burger box."
