With three games left in the season, the Cy-Fair Bobcats had a chance to earn at least a share of their fifth straight District 15-5A baseball title.
Cy-Fair, which won the Class 5A state title in 2007, moved into a tie for first with Cy Falls after blanking the Golden Eagles 3-0 this week.
The two teams entered the final three games atop the league standings at 11-3 and have split their two games this season.
One of our goals every year is to try and win a district title,'' said long-time Cy-Fair head coach Woody Champagne.
Cy Falls, which was ranked No. 2 in the Houston area before last week's loss to Cy-Fair, is shooting for its first conference crown in quite some time.
Nobody really expected much out of us this year (after winning only nine games a year ago),'' said Cy Falls head coach Carl McClosky. But we expected a lot out of ourselves. We had almost everybody coming back from last year's team.''
Cy Woods, which looks like it will finish third, was the trendy pick to steal the district title, but the Wildcats have been up and down during the second half of district play.
Cy-Fair and Cy Woods are the teams to beat,'' Langham Creek head coach Armando Sedeo said. They probably have the most talent. But the best teams don't always win. It is the teams that are playing the best.''
Cy-Fair will close the regular season by hosting Cy Ridge which is battling Cy Creek, Jersey Village and Cy Ranch for the league's final playoff spot while Cy Falls will take on Cy Ranch. Both games will be played at 7 p.m.
