Cy Falls finishes fourth in ComedySportz finals
From a press release:
At the Ninth Annual Tournament of the ComedySportz High School League, it was a hilarious battle for the Golden Cafeteria Tray.
Schools participating this year were Cinco Ranch, Faith West Academy, defending champions Katy High, Mayde Creek, Morton Ranch, Seven Lakes and Taylor from Katy ISD; Memorial, Stratford, Spring Woods and Westchester from Spring Branch ISD; Cypress Creek and Cypress Falls from Cypress-Fairbanks ISD; and Bush High School from Fort Bend ISD.
The Cy Falls team of Kris Alvarado, Robert Price, Colin Hamilton and Heather Bolton was one of the four teams, out of the 14, to make it to the finals. The challenges they accepted were "Six rooms" (where each team pairs off into twos and has a scene with their ending line being the next scene's beginning line); "Newscaster" (where an audience member's daily events are turned into the biggest new story of the year); "Beastie Rap" (where three of the team must complete a rhyme that is first rapped by the other team member); "New Choice" (a scene in which the referee randomly yells "new choice" and the team has to stop the scene they are doing and go back a few seconds and do something else); and "Back in my Day" (a topic is thrown out and the team members act like elderly folk and say a pun about it).
In the first half Robert Price was called for a "Groaner Foul" (too punny--like a dyslexic man walks into a bra) during the Newscaster Challenge but he recovered nicely with his apology to the almost filled auditorium.
Cypress Falls, coached by Kelly Harkins and sponsored by Rachel Seney, finished fourth overall with Seven Lakes taking home the Golden Cafeteria Tray.
Formed in 1995, the ComedySportz High School League features student "actletes" in the established ComedySportz format. Through workshops conducted by professional ComedySportz Coaches, the League offers the students the opportunity to create, direct and perform as a team in a safe, fun-filled environment. The comedy is clean and anyone who tries to work blue gets a "brown bag" foul.
Auditions for the Cypress Falls team are usually the second week of school while the Cypress Falls League Tournament Team is picked from those who complete the season.
Please mark your calendars for May of 2011 for the funniest high school event in Houston ... and only $5.
