Gold Glove league gives chance for local teams

CHRONICLE CORRESPONDENT
The Gold Glove Baseball League will hold its annual varsity tournament on Thursday-Sunday at Cy-Fair and Cinco Ranch high schools.
The Gold Glove League, which started last week, features freshmen, junior varsity and varsity teams from Brenham, Cinco Ranch, Cy Creek, Cy-Fair, Cy Falls, Cy Lakes, Cy Ranch, Cy Ridge, Cy Springs, Cy Woods, Jersey Village, Katy, Katy Taylor, Langham Creek, Morton Ranch, Seven Lakes and Stratford.
The varsity teams will play on Tuesdays, while the freshmen and JV teams will play games on Mondays and Wednesdays through July 15.
The varsity teams play doubleheaders once per week, while the JV and freshmen teams play twice per week,'' said Langham Creek head coach Armando Sedeo. We play 12-14 games and each division has a tournament.''
The JV tournament is scheduled to conclude today, while the freshmen tournament will be held on June 24-27.
The high school coaches (from each school) are not allowed to coach,'' Sedeo said.
But we can watch them play. It is nice to go to one game and be able to see them all play.''
The Cy-Fair Bobcats, who have won five straight District 15-5A titles, should be the favorites to win the league.
But Katy, Cy Woods, Stratford and Brenham also should have outstanding teams.
This league really serves its purpose,'' Sedeo said. One, you get to play as a group and work within a unit. On a select team, it is all about how to work with other people. Both have their part in the development of a baseball player.''
Sedeo said he likes to see how the team materializes during the summer.
As a high school coach, this is perfect to see how they are developing,'' Sedeo said.
Plus, you get to see the team and see how it is coming together.
It is tough at times being a high school coach,'' he added.
But this really gives us a chance to sit back and watch the kids. We get to see if the kids moving up from JV to varsity can compete at that level, and it gives us a chance to look at the young kids. We kind of get an idea of where they are before we get started in the fall.''
Tuesday's varsity games will have Cy-Fair at Katy Taylor, Cy Woods at Cy Springs, Cy Falls at Brenham, Cy Creek at Morton Ranch, Cy Ridge at Cy Ranch, Cinco Ranch at Katy, Cy Lakes at Stratford and Langham Creek at Seven Lakes.
All games start at 6 p.m. The second game will follow immediately after the completion of the first game.
