KPFT likely knocked off air by copper thieves
According to a Chronicle article my Peggy O'Hare, the KPFT 90.1 radio station may have been knocked off air by copper thieves. Supposedly, the thieves broke into the station's transmission tower site, cut a power drop line and peeled a junction box off the building's wall.
The station's signals dropped off the radio around 12 a.m. Monday morning. Houston listeners can still hear the station's live-streaming broadcasts on the Internet at www.kpft.org while the station's signal remains on the air in Galveston at 89.5 FM.
The post in the Houston Press' Hair Balls blog states that the station's transmission tower is located near Beltway 8 and U.S. 290.
