Cy-Woods' Washington leads Arizona defense in upset
Cy-Woods graduate (2009) Justin Washington was credited with two sacks and four solo tackles in No. 24 Arizona’s 34-27 upset over No. 9 Iowa Saturday.
Washington, who continues to be the breakout player of the year for Arizona, is a freshman defensive tackle for the Wildcats. He helped limit Iowa, which entered the game ranked 25th in the NCAA with 227 yards rushing per game, to a scant 29 yards on the ground.
Washington played junior varsity his sophomore and junior years because Cy-Woods, which opened in 2006, didn't yet have a varsity squad. In 2008, its first varsity season, Washington and Cy-Woods went 8-3 and advanced to the Class 5A Division I Region II semifinals before falling to Dallas Skyline.
He earned a 2008 unanimous First-team All-District 15-5A defense selection for the Cy-Woods Wildcats and was selected for the inaugural 2008 Space City Classic all-star football game showcasing Houston talent.
He is the son of Stacy Washington.
Arizona, now 3-0 on the season, will face California this Saturday at home. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. MST.
