Employee says company ignored heart attack

An employee is suing his employers after suffering a heart attack on the job.

Roderick and Chandra Butler filed suit in Harris County District Court on Oct. 21, stating that JE Dunn Construction Co. and Cypress-based E3 Electric failed to call an ambulance and take reasonable measures when Roderick was obviously having a heart attack, while at work on a construction site.

According to the suit, JE Dunn Construction Co. and E3 Electric are guilty of maliciously placing more importance on money than on the life of an employee, when supervisors refused to call an ambulance for Roderick.  He experienced the heart attack while working on the Fort Bend County Justice Center's new construction site.

In their suit, the Butlers claim Roderick has suffered serious irreparable physical damage, including a stroke, due to his employer's inaction, which delayed him receiving proper medical attention when he most needed it.

It was the responsibility of the defendants, he says, to assist him during his medical emergency.

The Butlers are being represented by Houston attorney T. Ernest Freeman.  They are seeking compensatory and punitive damages, as well as court costs.
