Houston to hold community walk on Nov. 6
The Houston Out of the Darkness Community Walk will take place Saturday, Nov. 6 at Stude Park at 1030 Stude St., benefiting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
The Walk is in honor of Asher Brown, a student who committed suicide on Sept. 23rd. The 13-year old Brown, an eighth grader at Hamilton Middle School outside Houston, shot himself in the head after being bullied, according to his parents. Brown's mother and stepfather say he was constantly harassed from four other students for his small size, his religion, for not wearing designer clothes and shoes. Kids also accused him of being gay.
The Out of the Darkness Community Walks are 3 to 5 mile walks taking place in more than 200 communities across the country this fall, with the proceeds benefiting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Registration deadline is Nov. 5 at 11:45 p.m. Check-in for the walk begins at 9 a.m.
