HS football preview: Cypress Falls v. Jersey Village
Houston Cypress Falls visits Houston Jersey Village in District 17-5A football action on Friday.
The Golden Eagles beat Cypress Ranch 41-14 last week. The victory lifted Cypress Falls to 5-3 overall and 4-3 in district play. Cy-Falls outrushed Cy-Ranch 215-70; while Golden Eagle quarterback Troy Mitchell threw three touchdown passes.
Mitchell, a 6-foot, 190-pound junior, has completed 69 percent of his passes for 1252 yards and 15 touchdowns. He has added five rushing touchdowns; while only being intercepted three times on the season.
Dean Johnson, a 6-foot, 175-pound, senior wide receiver, has 25 receptions for 494 yards and eight touchdowns. Gratian Gladney, a 5-foot, 10-inch, 175-pound junior, has hauled in 39 passes for 387 yards and six touchdowns. Gladney has also run the ball 40 times for 229 yards and three touchdowns
Head Coach David Raffield feeds the ball to Brice Peters when he wants to grind out yards on the ground. Peters, a 5-foot, 10-inch, 190-pound sophomore running back, has gained 522 yards on 71 carries, for five touchdowns and 7.35 yards per carry.
Houston Jersey Village lost to Cypress Springs, 41-31, last week. The loss dropped the Falcons to 1-7 overall and 1-6 in district play.
Head Coach David Snokhou's Jersey Village defense held Cy-Springs to only 11-yards passing, but gave up 476 on the ground.
Devontre Barlow, a 5-foot, 10-inch, 170-pound, sophomore, is a dangerous duel-threat quarterback for Jersey Village. He has thrown for 561 yards and three touchdowns; while rushing for 130 yards and one touchdown.
Victor Brown, a 5-foot, 10-inch, 175-pound junior, leads the Falcons in rushing. He has scored four touchdowns on 546 yards rushing.
Justin Boualiane, a 5-foot, 9-inch, 170-pound senior wide receiver, leads the team with 312 yards receiving and three touchdowns on 11 receptions.
Joshua Jarmon, a 5-foot, 9-inch, 165-pound, senior wide receiver, leads the Falcons with 14 catches, for 176 yard and three touchdowns.
