HS football preview: Cypress Creek v. Cypress Ridge
Cypress Creek visits Cypress Ridge in District 17-5A football action on Friday.
The Cougars are 6-3 overall and 6-2 in district play following their 44-30 win over Langham Creek. The Cougars outrushed Langham Creek 267-98 in the victory.
Senior quarterback Chuckie Keeton is a dangerous weapon for Head Coach Greg McCaig. Keeton has thrown for 1,636 yards, 10 touchdowns and only two interceptions. On the ground, Keeton had busted out for 621 yards and nine touchdowns.
Junior running back Devan Demas leads Cy-Creek with 1,165 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns. David Lizarraga, a senior wide receiver, is the Cougars' leading receiver with 388 yards on 39 receptions for three touchdowns.
Cypress Ridge is 6-3 overall and 6-2 in district play following their 49-40 loss to Cypress Woods. The two teams combined for 871 yards in the shootout.
The Rams have a talented dual-threat quarterback in Andrew Gonzales. The senior has thrown for 1,225 yards and 12 touchdowns while rushing for 410 yards and five touchdowns.
The leading rusher for Head Coach Gary Thiebaud's Rams is Renderick Childs. The sophomore has gained 794 yards and scored 13 touchdowns. Johnnie Tolbert, a senior wide receiver, has 13 receptions for 243 yards and four scoring grabs.
Friday's kick off is slated for 7 p.m. at the Berry Center.
