Cypress Christian routs Faith West Academy

 

Jason Groll scored twice on the ground and Garrett Higginbotham twice from the air as Cypress Christian shut out Faith West Academy, 32-0.

After kicker Austin Barton gave the Warriors (7-3) a 3-0 lead on a 39 yard field goal, Groll (19 rushes, 69 yards) extended it with two touchdown scampers.

His four-yard run with 4:58 remaining in the first quarter gave Cypress Christian a 10-0 lead, and his six-yard run at the end of the second quarter made it 17-0 at halftime.

Faith West quarterback Grant Robinson (18 of 45, 169 yards) was intercepted three times and the Eagles fumbled twice. The Warriors' defense held Faith West to 62 yards rushing.

Cypress Christian quarterback Jonathan Mason (10 of 21, 132 yards, two touchdowns) connected withthe senior wide receiver Higginbotham on two second-half scoring strikes. A 46 yard pass in the third quarter gave the Warriors a 23-0 lead, and a 17-yarder made it 30-0 with 6:28 remaining in the third quarter.

The Warriors advance to the TAPPS Division III playoffs.
