HS football preview: Alief Elsik v. Houston Cypress Fair
Alief Elsik battles Houston Cypress Fair in 5A district football playoffs on Friday.
The Rams finished the regular season 4-6 overall and 2-4 in district play.
Head Coach Bill Barron has a balanced offensive attack. Elsik has rushed for 1,948 yards and passed for 1,311.
Senior Jerry Bynum is a dominant running back for Alief Elsik. Bynum has rushed for 1,368 yards and 21 touchdowns on the season.
Kurt Lambert, the Rams senior quarterback, is a dual threat weapon for Elsik. Lambert has passed for 923 yards, nine touchdowns and six interceptions. He has rushed for 147 yards and three scores.
Dontrell Morrison, a senior wide receiver, has 14 receptions for 223 yards and two scoring grabs.
Houston Cypress Fair finished the regular season 8-2 overall and 7-2 in district action.
Head Coach Ed Pustejovsky has a talented quarterback in Chris Mangram. Mangram, a senior, has passed for 1,231 yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions. He has also rushed for 234 yards and four touchdowns.
The Bobcats leading rusher is John Jacob. The junior has gained 992 yards on the ground, scoring 12 touchdowns. Christian Cook, a senior, leads the Bobcats in receptions. The wide receiver has hauled in 16 catches for 412 yards and four touchdowns.
Friday's kick off is slated for 7 p.m. at the Berry Center.
