Cy-Fair area self-storage business sues former law firm over malpractice

A Cy-Fair area business, Amazing Spaces, is suing its former law firm alleging that one of its attorneys cannibalized the plaintiffs business for his own gain.

Daryl and Kathleen Tautenhan, K-Kies, Amazing Spaces, and Tautenhaun Holdings filed a lawsuit on Nov. 5 in the Harris County District Court against the law firm Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell, and attorneys Douglas Yeager, Robert Pieringer, and Andrew Gregory stating the defendants breached professional standards of care, acted unconscionably, and breached their fiduciary duties.

The plaintiffs claim that the defendants had always, in the past, handled their cases with care and professionalism. However, when asked by the plaintiffs to represent them in a trademark infringement matter, the defendants declined. According to the brief, plaintiffs discovered an employee of the law firm stole their designs to start his own self-storage business, to compete directly with plaintiffs.

The plaintiffs are seeking actual, treble, and punitive damages, fee forfeiture, attorney's fees, and court costs.
