HS volleyball: Cy-Fair defeats Katy in quarterfinals
Houston's Cypress Fair defeated Katy in the District 5A volleyball regional quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Cypress Fair won the match in five games, 32-20, 25-17, 23-25, 20-25 and 15-11. Emily Wright, a 5-foot, 8-inch junior, led Cypress Fair with 21 kills in the match. Wright paces the Bobcats with 214 kills on the season for a 4.2-kill-per-game average.
Sarah Teel, a 5-foot, 8-inch senior, has 85 kills on the year for a 3.4-kill-per-game average.
On the year, the Bobcats have recorded 410 kills. Cypress Fair is now 33-8 overall and 16-2 in district play.
With Tuesday's playoff loss, Katy finishes the season 26-12 overall and 10-2 in district action. Junior Lydia McKay led Katy with 15 kills in the match. McKay topped the Tigers with 212 kills on the year for a 3.72-kill-per-game average.
Keeley Kainer, a junior, recorded 147 kills for a 3.87-kill-per-game average.
As a team, Katy posted 359 kills on the season for a 3.78-kill-per-game average.
