Cy-Fair sisters poised to make Final Four run together
Cy-Fair natives Nnemkadi Ogwumike and Chiney Ogwumike have joined forces at Stanford to give the No. 3-ranked Lady Cardinals basketball team a strong chance at returning to the Final Four.
Nnemkadi, a 6-foot, 2-inch junior forward, is Chiney's older sister and has been to the Final Four twice with Stanford already. After high school graduation in 2010, Chiney, a 6-foot, 3-inch freshman forward, joined the Cardinals so she and her sister could make it to the Final Four together. With their accomplishments, the goal isn't unlikely.
Chiney enters her college career as the No. 1 prospect in the nation of the 2010 graduating class. She was named Gatorade's National Athlete of the Year in addition to its Girls' Basketball National Player of the Year. Chiney was also a two-time District 17-5A MVP and Greater Houston Player of the Year for her junior and senior seasons. She led Cy-Fair High to two state championships in 2008 and 2010.
No. 3-ranked Stanford will open their 2010-2011 season on Nov. 14 at home against Rutgers. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. PST.
