HS volleyball: Cy-Woods defeats Katy Seven Lakes
The nationally ranked Cy-Woods Wildcats (44-2) defeated the District 19 champion Katy Seven Lakes Spartans (30-15) three games to none in a 5A Regional quarter-final showdown.
The Wildcats are ranked in the top 40 nationally by MAXPREPS and won the match convincingly, 25-16, 25-16 and 25-17.
Cy-Woods will now face the Clear Creek Wildcats in the 5A Regional semi-finals.
Six-foot Wildcats junior Sarah Nielsen filled the void left by star outside hitter Daniela Arenas, who was injured before the playoffs began.
Nielsen compiled 10 kills outdoing Seven Lakes star Nicole Bardaji, who totaled seven kills in defeat.
The district championship was the first in school history for Seven Lakes.
