HS football playoffs: Houston Christian falls to Liberty Christian
Houston Christian held a halftime lead but couldn't hold it, falling to Liberty Christian 42-14 in the first round of the bi-district playoffs.
The Mustangs (4-6) fell behind 7-0 on a Jared Dawson 26-yard rushing touchdown, but took the lead on a strong second quarter.
Zach Finger's (13 carries, 43 yards) 8-yard touchdown run tied the game 7-7, then quarterback Sam Voncannon hit Dale Wallace (eight catches, 119 yards) with a 12 yard touchdown pass to give Houston Christian a 14-7 lead.
Liberty Christian's ground game and defense proved too much in the second half.
Lawson (21 carries, 208 yards) scored on runs of 30, 11, and 25, averaging 9.9 yards per carry. The Warriors gained 367 yards rushing versus just 86 for the Mustangs, held to 2.2 yards per carry.
Voncannon finished the season with 1,103 yards passing and eight touchdowns.
