HS football playoffs: Cy Woods rallies past Eisenhower

Colton Huntsman passed for 327 yards and ran for 134 yards to lead the Cy Woods Wildcats past the Eisenhower Eagles in the first round of the 5A, Division II playoffs, 45-35, Saturday night at Berry Center.

A 93-yard Huntsman pass to senior wide receiver Clesmic Burden in the third quarter keyed a 14-0 third quarter for Cy Woods (8-3), erasing a 21-17 Eisenhower halftime lead that the Wildcats would keep for good.

Eagles' senior quarterback James Jones completed 19 of 31 passes for 214 yards and ran for 179 yards and three scores, including a two-yard keeper with 5:46 remaining in the first quarter. Five minutes later, Trevion Cooks returned a Cy Woods fumble for a touchdown to make it 14-0 Eisenhower.

The Wildcats staged a quick comeback. Frederick Anderson (five catches, 93 yards) scored on a 3-yard run, then a 22-yard pass from Huntsman with 6:23 remaining in the second quarter, tying the game at 14.

For the Eagles (6-5), running back Brian Heard ran 21 times for 96 yards and
Derrick Hawkins caught seven passes for 51 yards, including a 17-yard touchdown with 10:39 remaining in the fourth quarter to pull within one score.

But Huntsman responded with a 6-yard scoring run on Cy Woods' next possession.

Eisenhower had 12 penalties for 84 yards on the night.

Cy Woods advances to the second round where it will play Katy Taylor, a winner over Chavez.
