Cypress' Fera out after appendectomy
Cypress native Anthony Fera will likely miss the rest of the regular season as Penn State's punter after undergoing an emergency appendectomy on Wednesday, Nov. 17.
A St. Pius X alum, Fera will miss the next two weeks of play and then will be evaluated to see if he will be eligible to play for bowl season.
Fera, a redshirt freshman from Houston, has averaged 41.6 yards on 43 punts and has helped the Nittany Lions lead the Big Ten in net punting. He also has handled kickoffs all season.
Fera was one of the nation's top prep placekickers at St. Pius X. He was selected as a 2008 Under Armour All-American and earned first-team all-state honors as a junior and senior. During his senior season, he was 37 of 39 on point after attempts and 8 of 9 on field goals, with a long of 58 yards. In 2008, 55 of his 60 kickoffs went for touchbacks. He also averaged 44.1 yards on 36 punts.
