Cy-Fair volunteer opportunities

Volunteer Houston has announced the upcoming volunteer opportunities in Northwest Harris County. Call 713-965-0031 for more information.

Volunteers to make greeting cards to be delivered to nursing homes and hospitals on Christmas Day are needed. Those interested can make the cards at home and mail or deliver them at their convenience to one of two locations, in Cypress or near Greenway Plaza.

A pet supply store in the Copperfield area is looking for volunteers to staff a pet adoption station every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a local animal welfare agency. Duties can include grooming and showing off the dogs, taking them for walks and keeping the cages clean. Unaccompanied volunteers should be at least 18, but teens down to age 15 are welcome if accompanied by their parents.

An agency that works directly with the courts has many volunteer opportunities available. Some volunteers research placements for children who have been removed from their homes, some review foster care cases and make recommendations for permanent placement, and others will work with families in which abuse has occurred. Call to register for an upcoming orientation session.

An Alzheimers facility in Spring is looking for volunteers to lead a group of senior citizens in chair-based exercise sessions. Interested parties will drop by for about thirty minutes on the mornings of their choice and help raise energy levels and maintain basic muscle tone. Staff will train volunteers in the basics of the easy-going exercise techniques.
