Toddler run over in driveway of Cypress home
A man fatally struck a small child, believed to be his daughter, who darted into his path as he pulled into the driveway of his northwest Harris County home, officials said Tuesday.
The girl, 1½ to 2, was hit about 6:30 p.m. at her family's house in the 15700 block of Telge, Harris County sheriff's deputies said.
"He never even saw her. He just felt the impact," said sheriff's deputy R.D. Soots. "He said it felt like he hit a rock."
He then opened the car door and discovered that he had run over the child. Family members and neighbors bundled up the child and drove to North Cypress Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, deputies said.
The investigation is continuing but investigators said there are no signs the driver was impaired or speeding.
"It just looks to be a tragic accident," Soots said.
