VA engineer named Engineer of the Year
The Department of Veterans Affairs recently awarded Cy-Fair's George Thomas of the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) the Engineer of the Year recognition.
Thomas was selected for this award based on his efforts in energy engineering for the MEDVAMC, the South Central VA Health Care Network and the Department of Veterans Affairs. He spearheaded efforts to improve the environmental stewardship of MEDVAMC while lowering energy costs.
Thomas' expertise also helped earn the VA three Green Building Initiative Green Globes in 2009 and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star in 2010.
The Green Globe awards were developed as a method for building owners in the United States to identify high-performing buildings in energy and environmental efficiency. This program assigns points to various assessment areas. The MEDVAMC received a combined 757.5 points out of 1,000.
