Cypress Falls 2007 graduate Darryl Ashford has busted into the Creighton Bluejay starting lineup to become a key cog for Head Coach Greg McDermott's basketball team.

Ashford, a 6-foot, 4-inch swingman, is getting a chance to help Creighton's offense as a starter because of some strides the senior guard has made on defense.

Ashford scored 13 points in making his second start Friday against Kennesaw State. He had 17 points in his first start, which came last Sunday at Iowa State.

In the two games as a starter, Ashford has made 12 of 18 shots, including six of eight from three-point range, and handed out seven assists. In three games as a reserve, Ashford averaged 7.0 points while making two of five three-pointers and eight of 15 overall from the field.

"Darryl brings to our team what you've seen the past couple of games," Coach McDermott told bluejaystoday.com. "He can make plays for himself, he can make plays for his teammates. We need him out there."

At Cy-Falls, he played for Coach Jim Draudt and averaged 22 points and 10 rebounds per game as a senior, including a game high of 35 points. Ashford earned first-team all-conference and third-team all-area honors as a senior. He averaged 15 points per game his junior season, and originally committed to play for Bob Knight at Texas Tech.

He is the son of Darryl Ashford Sr. and Linda Robinson. Ashford is an interpersonal communications major.

Creighton will host BYU on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
