County official sues Cy-Fair auto dealer over taxes
A county official is suing to recover overdue taxes.
Don Sumners, as tax collector for Harris County, filed a lawsuit on Nov. 30 in the Harris County District Court against Steven Gray and Chrome Motorsports, located at 7827 Virginia Water Lane in Cy-Fair, alleging non-compliance in filing the Dealer's Motor Vehicle Inventory Tax Statement with the Harris County Tax Office.
Sumners says that the defendant is required by the Texas Tax Code to file a Dealer's Motor Vehicle Inventory Tax Statement with the Harris County Tax Office monthly. According to the brief, the defendant is over 30 days late filing this paperwork. Sumners says this failure has made it impossible for him to do his job.
Sumners is seeking an injunction, payment of penalties, money owed, attorney's fees and court costs.
He is being represented in the case by Assistant County attorney Randall Smidt.
