Monday is deadline to file to apply for college board
Lone Star College System is seeking applicants for a job that has no pay and ends in May 2012.
The deadline to apply to fill a vacancy on the Lone Star board of trustees is 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3.
The board will appoint a person to fill the unexpired term for Position 2 which was held by Chris Daniel who resigned Dec. 2. Daniel was elected Harris County district clerk on Nov. 2.
State law allows the board to fill the position until the next board election in May 2012.
Applicants must be registered to vote, a Texas resident at least one year and live in the district for at least six months. Residents may send their résumé by e-mail to Helen Clougherty, special assistant to the chancellor/board liaison, Lone Star College System, at email@example.com.
Clougherty said on Monday that she had received seven or eight résumés by e-mail. She anticipated receiving more, adding that "People tend to wait to last minute."
U.S. Postal mail will be delivered after the holidays, she added, since the college is on holiday break. In the past, a vacancy has generated about 20 or so applicants. The Nominating Committee is scheduled to meet Jan. 13.
Semifinalists will be interviewed Jan. 20, Clougherty said, and trustees could make a decision on Feb. 3.
The college system comprises the geographical boundaries of the Aldine, Conroe, Cy-Fair, Humble, Klein, Magnolia, New Caney, Splendora, Spring, Tomball and Willis school districts.
