Local wildlife photographer patents one-handed quiet kayak anchoring system
A wildlife photographer who lives in the Cy-Fair area has received a
U.S. patent for his invention of a better way to anchor a kayak in
shallow water.
According to the patent, Benny R. Beaty of Houston developed the
system to allow kayakers to anchor their boats more quietly while
fishing or taking photographs. It consists of a gear box that the user
attaches to the side of the kayak, which then lowers a shaft into the
water below. Another advantage of the device is that it can be
operated with one hand.
The official patent number for the new device is 7,861,661. Beaty is
listed as the sole inventor. He originally filed the patent on Aug. 3,
2008.
