Cy-Fair grad Mansa El has season-ending micro fracture surgery
Cy-Fair High School graduate Mansa El had season-ending micro fracture knee surgery last week.
Having only played in nine of the South Alabama Lady Jags’ games this season, El, a junior guard, will be eligible for a medical hardship and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
She lettered three years in basketball and helped lead Cy-Fair (38-2) to its first-ever state championship, capturing the Class 5A title her senior year. Cy-Fair ended the season ranked fifth nationally by ESPN.com. El was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts at the state tournament
She was named to the TABC All-Region team during her senior season and was a first-team District 17-5A selection and a Class 5A Region III selection as a junior in 2006.
Cy-Fair was ranked No. 1 in Class 5A and entered the 2007 season as the third-ranked team in the nation, according to ESPN.com. During her three seasons at Cy-Fair, she helped the team to a 113-4 record.
El Is the fourth of six children in her family. Her mother, Akweley El, played basketball at Norfolk State University.
