Langham Creek grad Johnson hits game winner for Ragin Cajuns
Mercedes Johnson, a Langham Creek grad, hit a jumper with one second remaining that clinched a thrilling 71-69 victory for the University of Louisiana Lafayette over North Texas on Wednesday.
Johnson scored 13 points, her 17th double-figure contest of the year. The junior reeled in nine rebounds and recorded two steals in 36 minutes of action. Johnson leads the team in scoring and rebounding. She scores 14.8 points per game and grabs 6.3 boards per game.
Earlier this season Johnson became the 14th player in Louisiana Lafayette history to reach 1,000 points.
Johnson was named first team All-District for all four years of high school. She also earned All-Greater Houston honors for two years. Johnson averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds per game at Langham Creek.
Johnson, born on Feb. 5, 1990, in Houston, is the daughter of Yvette Ferguson.
