Student percussionists to perform at LSC-CyFair

An independent percussion ensemble will play a concert this weekend at Lone Star College-CyFair.

The musicians of the Percussion One Foundation will perform on the campus at 4 p.m. on Jan. 30. The event is open to the public.

Percussion One is an independent percussion group made up of students from throughout the Houston area. The young musicians are directed by the group's founder, Lamar D. Burkhalter, a percussion educator and music director for the Houston Texans. The group is intended to open new and varied musical opportunities for students. The ensemble has performed in concerts with major acts such as Shania Twain and Keith Urban. They also have played half-time shows for the Texans and other local teams.

This year, members of the group are particularly excited about two performances at the Texas Music Educators Association in San Antonio. Being invited is a special honor for the independent ensemble, as most of the groups invited are associated with public schools.

Percussion One's high-school and middle-school students will perform at the LSC-CyFair event. For more information, including how to purchase tickets, call 281-232-5069, e-mail info@percussionone.org, or stop by the LSC box office at the Center for the Arts Building, 9191 Barker Cypress Road.
