LSC-CyFair thanks senior volunteers for aid during first week of classes
Members of a campus program for students age "50 and better" recently helped with the spring semester registration at Lone Star College-CyFair and are getting ready for their own courses, according to a press release from the Cy-Fair school.
Academy for Lifelong Learning, an education program for seniors, recruited 30 of its members to volunteer and assist the college during the registration process.
"We have more than 18,000 registered students, so during peak registration our lines and wait times can get very long. The ALL members stepped up to the plate," LSC-CyFair president Audre Levy said in a statement. "They are a wonderful addition and the students and staff really appreciate their help."
Members of ALL begin their own courses soon, and registration is underway for spring classes in gardening, travel, history, health care, photography, woodwork, art and other disciplines.
An annual fee of $20 allows members access to student discounts and use of the college's fitness center. Members have the opportunity to teach an ALL class, volunteer on campus or serve on the program's advisory board and committees.
