Three Cy-Fair-area men receive patent for invention designed to speed data transfer between companie

Three Cy-Fair-area men are part of a team that received a U.S. patent last week for an invention they say could speed data transfer between computers.

The system described by the patent is an improvement of the type generally used to move data packets from one computer to another. The inventors add what they call a "quality of service" filter to sort out packets that only perform a maintenance function and do not actually add new useful information. This adds to the overall efficiency of the system, they say.

The inventors acknowledged by the patent are Hahn Vo Norden of Houston; Hubert E. Brinkmann of Spring; Paul V. Brownell of the Cy-Fair area in Houston; Kenneth T. Chin of Cypress; James Dinh of Austin; David L. Matthews of Cypress; and Dwight D. Riley of the Memorial area in Houston. The patent was originally filed on July 11, 2007 and its official number is 7,876,759. The patent is owned by Hewlett-Packard (HP).

While its international headquarters are in Palo Alto, California, HP's Houston offices serve as the nerve center of its U.S. division. It is located in the Cy-Fair area at 20555 SH 249.
