LSC-CyFair plans March suit, prom dress drives

Lone Star College-CyFair is holding a campus- and community-wide suit drive Monday, March 7 through Friday, March 11, benefiting Dress For Success Houston (DFSH).

This year’s campaign is titled "S.O.S. Week" ("send one suit" week) as the college’s Counseling, Career and Disability Services Department teams up again with DFSH, which provides interview-appropriate suits and career development to aid low-income women entering the workforce.

Interview-appropriate women’s suits (skirt or pant), blouses, gently-used handbags, gently-used shoes, scarves and new pantyhose will be accepted as well as check donations made payable to DFSH. Clothing donations should be dry-cleaned and on hangers. Monetary donations are welcome as only 15 percent of annual donations are in sizes 14 to 34, which is the size range of 60 percent of DSFH’s clients. A $75 donation fully funds one suit.

Sign-in forms will be available for donations, all of which are tax-deductible. Suits and check donations should be dropped off at the front desk of Counseling, Career and Disability Services Department in LRNC 110, in the library.

Lone Star College-CyFair will also be holding its seventh annual Prom Dress Give-Away benefiting teens without the financial means to purchase a dress for prom this spring.

Dresses will be available for teens to try on and take home at no charge from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays March 26, April 2, April 9, April 16 and April 30 in the library, room 131, as well as by appointment.

Donations of prom dresses, jewelry (broken pieces to be refurbished are also accepted), unused make up samples, shoes, purses and accessories can be dropped off at the library’s customer service desk on the LSC-CyFair campus.
