Seminar to discuss rules for officers, directors of associations
For many people, their first involvement with civic life is serving on the board of a neighborhood organization or home association. But even the issues faced by these local bodies can be complex.
An event being held in the Cy-Fair area tonight will be helpful for new board members or those who feel like they could use an update. The Greater Houston Neighborhood Association's "ABC Course" will cover topics such as keeping governing documents up-to-date and how to reach fair agreements with consultants and contractors.
It's also designed to teach board members the basics they need to avoid big mistakes, since as the organizers say, "When a board gets into trouble, everyone pays the price."
The speakers at the meeting will be Christi Keller of the RealManage company and Neil McLaurin of the law firm Bartley & Spears. There is no cost for members of the Greater Houston Neighborhood Association; non-members must pay $5.
The event will take place at The Sand Trap Grill, 7900 N. Sam Houston Parkway, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23.
