'Cats, Eagles take aim
It's a special Wednesday, March 2, encounter matching two of the top boys soccer teams in District 17-5A, and contest is a day later than usual (Wednesday instead of Tuesday) due to TAKS testing on March 2, according to team schedules.
Cy-Fair and defending district champ Cy Falls are in different zones within 17-5A, so this is only meeting between the two during league play, and the result could turn out to play a role in a playoff tiebreaker, or even more.

Leading scorers are Mendoza with nine goals, Jimenez eight and Zawitkowski four, and Jimenez has also chipped in two assists ... Cy-Fair placed third in district last season coming in behind Cy Falls and Cy Woods, and in front of fourth place Langham Creek ... The Bobcats are zoned with Cy Creek, Cy Springs, Cy Ridge and Jersey Village and will play those teams twice during district, and Cy Falls, Langham Creek, Cy Lakes, Cy Woods and Cy Ranch once for a total of 13 district outings ... Cy-Fair plays another district match at 7 p.m. Friday, March 4, at Cy Ridge.
• Cy Falls: The Eagles beat Cy Ranch (score not available), Jersey Village 2-1 an Cy Woods 1-0, tied Cy Lakes 0-0, and lost to Langham Creek 1-0 for a 3-1-1 start in 17-5A ... Cy Falls won the 15-5A championship a year ago (now Cy-Fair ISD schools are in 17-5A), and advanced to the third round of the playoffs ... The Eagles have been in a battle for second place with Langham Creek and Cy Creek, and all three were trying to catch up with Cy-Fair in the early going ... After trying to knock off front-running Cy-Fair, Cy Falls plays at 7 p.m. Friday, March 4, at Langham Creek.
