Cy-Fair company sued over elevator shaft fall claim

A Katy man is suing the makers of a construction elevator after he allegedly fell down the shaft of the elevator and hurt his back.

Steven T. Nguyen filed a lawsuit Feb. 22 in Harris County District Court against Absolute Crane Service Inc., Osborn Industries Inc. and Waller Cranes Inc. Also named as defendants are Crane Equipment & Service Inc. and Goodman Manufacturing Co. LP.

According to the petition, Nguyen was working for Corporate Services Group Holdings in March 2009. While loading materials onto an elevator at Goodman Manufacturing Co. in Memorial, Nguyen allegedly fell down the elevator shaft and broke a bone in his back.

Nguyen accuses Absolute Crane Service, Osborn Industries, Waller Crane, Crane Equipment & Service and Goodman Manufacturing of negligence. He claims Goodman Manufacturing is liable for his injuries since it owns the elevator and allegedly failed to make it safe for operation. Nguyen lists Cy-Fair company Absolute Crane as the elevator’s manufacturer.

Nguyen asks for an unspecified amount of money in damages along with court costs.

Attorneys Terry Bryant and Stacy L. Kelly, of Houston, are representing Nguyen.
