LSC-CyFair student named scholarship essay winner
The first time Dena Horne tried attending college, her experience was so negative that she thought she would never return.
But now Horne has received an award for writing about how great her experiences were at Lone Star College-CyFair.
Horne was one of LSC five students who received a $1,000 scholarship at the 18th annual Chancellors Breakfast on Feb. 10. One student was honored from each of the community college system's five campuses.
Horne's essay focused on the positive influence of two of her professors: Paige Davis (professor of speech communications) and Andrew Dunsky (adjunct professor of history). Horne now says she would eventually like to teach at a community college. She will continue to pursue her education at Sam Houston University.
LSC-CyFair is located at 14955 N.W. Freeway. To learn more about its programs, call 281-290-3200 or visit www.LoneStar.edu/cyfair.
