Cy-Fair VFD tries to remain top MDA fundraiser

From a press release:
The Cy Fair Volunteer Fire Department takes over Cypress Village Station at Cypress Markets Nights to host a family-friendly event, complete with live music, and keep their title as the Muscular Dystrophy Association's top fundraising volunteer department.
From 4 to 8 p.m. August 13, firefighters will ask the public to Fill The Boot while enjoying jewelry and craft vendors and the band Southern Star. The first-of-its-kind event is the culmination of a national fundraising campaign where Cy Fair has been the leading volunteer department, raising more than $86,000 last year.
By hosting this event, MDA and the department hope to reach out to the community and continue this generous support. Proceeds stay in this same area, helping 1,400 families served by MDA in the Houston area and funding outpatient clinics at Texas Children's Hospital and The Methodist Neurological Institute.
Cy Fair has a long and unique history with MDA, going so far as to ask firefighters to give a week of their time at no pay to be counselors at MDA summer camp. Money raised at these events also helps send Jerry's Kids to camp, where they can enjoy canoeing, fishing and other hallmarks of summer.
MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education.
