Cy-Fair high school art student wins awards
Abigail Firth, a Cy-Fair high school student, recently earned a Gold Key Award for her Scholastic Art and Writing sculpture entry. Firth also won the American Vision Award, a specific Scholastic Achievement Award for her photograph.
Firth recently attended a reception at the Harris County Department of Education, regional sponsor of the program, in which 2,000 regional entries were received this year. Firth will now compete for a national American Vision Award in New York City, where national winners are honored at Carnegie Hall in June.
Around for 86 years, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards program identifies and documents outstanding achievements of young artists and writers. Of the 75,000 students in grades seven through 12 who participate in regional programs, 25,000 advance to the national competition in New York City, which awards $10,000 in scholarships to Gold Portfolio recipients.
